In 1998, straight out of university, I joined an ecommerce startup as their first employee... subscriptions.co.uk - we sold magazine subscriptions on the internet. Working with leading publishers our job was to help grow subscriptions and more importantly, subscription renewals. New subscribers were always rewarded with discounts or free gifts as an incentive to subscribe.... but how could we ensure that subscriber continued their delivery month after month after month? Keep in mind this was nearly 30 years ago... figuring out the how and why of building repeat business online. I was hooked on customer retention as a business growth strategy.

Recurring revenue models have been my fascination every since. Not to study, but as a practitioner. Launching membership and subscription businesses, both in and outside with world of ecommerce. Advising startups through to well known international brands, I've helped 100's of businesses transition to retention-first marketing strategies.

I've spoken at events and conferences around the globe on the value of retention-first thinking (and the perils of single-purchase business models).
